Young The Giant is hitting the road with a new album that goes by the same name as their tour, "Victory Garden." Don't sleep on this performance at the Ascend Amphitheater on Saturday, June 27th. This is not the kind of Saturday night that we get at this venue on the regular. Young the Giant have proven themselves as one of the top bands at a lot of these summer fests over the years, and it's only fitting that they're looking to re-create that vibe on their own tour.
To do that, they're bringing along the Cold War Kids as the lead-up to the main event throughout the entire road trip. These guys have been rocking out since the mid 2000s; they know a thing or two about crowd control. Then we've got an interesting ad in Almost Monday. One of the band's top tracks is "Cough Drops," which might be a bit of a knock-off of Young the Giant's "Cough Syrup." The groovy vibe that will engulf the Ascend Amphitheater come June 27th is hard to explain. Especially to a venue that's used to country music and smiles all around on any given weekend. It's not that smiles are not going to be present in the crowd. Let's just say that Young The Giant promotes a different way to disengage from reality. One of the coolest things about how this performance is set up is the fact that these performers kind of feature a similar groove across the board. It's not like you're going to be hit with some heavy metal vibes and then find yourself lost in the middle of "Superposition." That would be a wild ride, but not necessarily one your doctor would recommend, unlike your healthy dose of "Cough Syrup."
At the time of writing, we've only got "Different Kind of Love" from Young The Giant's new effort to fall back on. However, once this date inside the Ascend Amp comes along, the full Victory Garden album will have dropped. Make sure to add some of those tracks to your playlists because the last thing that you want is to be standing there with no clue what's going on. Actually, with someone like Young The Giant, that's not that bad, you know you'll be able to "vibe" to their music regardless. Still, it's best if you come prepared.
What type of concert-going experience are you looking to have? The front of the amp gives you that standing room with closeness to the performers. You can have a similar experience toward the back for a fraction of the price, buttt you'll miss out on the closeness. Also, don't sleep on the seats in the middle of the main theater area. Those tend to offer great views and an actual seat! That's something that you might be craving a few hours into this show.
